Konjac mushroom - what is it and what is it used for?

Konjac mushroom, also known as konjac mushroom or konjac tuber, is a natural product derived from the plant Amorphophallus konjac (sorry but I double-triple-checked the name and Amorphophallus also means misshapen penis haha! couldn't help but include it, well back to the topic...). This plant (also called Konnyaku, a slightly more reasonable name perhaps) is common in Asia, especially in countries like Japan, China and South Korea. Konjac mushroom is made from the konjac root, which is rich in a jelly-like substance called glucomannan.

The jelly-like consistency makes the konjac mushroom useful in many ways. It is often used in cooking as a thickener for soups, sauces, and desserts, and it is popular in Asian dishes. In addition, the konjac mushroom is known for its use as a healthy option for those looking for a low-calorie food or as a source of dietary fiber, as it is low in calories and high in fiber.

BUT! The konjac sponge is not only used in cooking but also in beauty and skin care. The konjac sponge used for body care is made from konjac fiber and is known for its gentle and exfoliating effect on the skin. It is popular for its ability to gently cleanse and exfoliate the skin, making it softer and more radiant. It is also said to balance the pH value of the skin and has antibacterial properties.

We offer konjac sponges for body care in two different varieties: a light and a dark variety. What really sets them apart is the color.

The Konjac sponge is used by moistening it in warm water until it becomes soft and pliable. It is then gently massaged over the face and body in circular motions to cleanse and exfoliate the skin. It is also suitable for daily use and can be used with or without cleansing products.

They are a natural and environmentally friendly alternative for those looking for gentle and effective exfoliation.

They are also often the perfect Konjac sponge to give as a gift because many here in the West have probably not yet had the chance to try them! They are incredibly popular further east though and have been for hundreds of years :)
